La Règle Underground Tour
What was the purpose of these vast underground caves carved out under the city over the centuries? From vaulted cellars to tunnels, descend and discover a rich history spanning 2,000 years under the former Abbaye de la Règle.

Underground City
Discover the squares and alleyways of the ancient city of the bishops, the oldest medieval centre in Limoges. The walk leads from a market place to the cathedral, via the cellars of the ancient Abbaye de la Règle.

Saint-Etienne Cathedral
In addition to its unique style, discover the stages of construction of this Gothic edifice, started in the 13th and completed in the 19th century. Inside, you can view the remarkable Renaissance rood screen.

The Botanical Garden of the Bishopric
With terraces majestically overlooking the Vienne, the garden of the Bishopric is an invitation to open your eyes. Look out into the distance first of all, to enjoy the views over the left bank of the river, then discover the garden with its collection of plants from five different continents.

Crypt of Saint-Martial
Underneath the vast Place de la République, come and discover the traces of the great Abbey of Saint Martial, a major landmark of medieval Aquitaine. Polyphonic music, illuminations, enamelware: such were the treasures of this cultural centre. Its influence stemmed from its site as the burial place of Saint-Martial at the beginning of the 4th century.

Saint-Michel-des-Lions: An Original Church
After observing the lofty steeple and passing through the great door guarded by two ancient lions, you will discover a church constructed in the form of a covered market, between the 14th and 16th centuries. Inside, the furnishings tell the history of the seven-yearly ceremonies of the Ostensions.

City squares are a vital part of urban life, places of passage and meeting places where personal and collective stories interweave. On the first Thursday of each month, we meet at 6pm in one of the city’s squares to tell its history, the origin of its name, its monuments and buildings, before enjoying a drink in a nearby café or restaurant.
