The University of Limoges is a European university institution. Its teaching and research place it at the heart of a vast network of international relations facilitating innovation, exchange and cooperation with numerous universities throughout the world. Its priorities are naturally directed towards French-speaking countries, but its influence is also felt throughout the countries of Europe, South-East Asia, Latin America and North America. This international dimension is characterised by a policy encouraging the reception of foreign students, lecturers and researchers, a policy in which the city of Limoges plays a vital role. In the same manner, it encourages and facilitates the mobility of students and lecturers for experience of other universities. This dynamism of international exchanges is a deliberate strategy of the University, in order to spread the influence of its fields of excellence and to ensure that its training courses are in tune with the major international currents of thought, science and technologies. An essential approach, making the University of Limoges a unique establishment for its students. Higher education is provided both within the University of Limoges and outside: 3 schools of engineering:
a National School for the Decorative Arts (Ecole Nationale d’Arts Décoratifs), with specialisations in the Arts du feu or “Arts of the Furnace” (enamels, porcelain etc.) a French National Water Professional Training Centre (CNFME / Centre National de Formation aux Métiers de l'Eau several courses of preparatory classes for entrance to Grandes Écoles 19 BTS advanced vocational diplomas numerous institutes specialised in the social and health professions and around 115 professional training bodies. With 20,000 students, Limoges is a true University City. Rents remain reasonable and the Centre Régional des Œuvres Universitaires (CROUS / regional higher education organisation providing student grants, residences and restaurants), which manages 14 halls of residence and 8 university restaurants, offers numerous services. The city itself offers pleasant surprises. It is simple to play sports thanks to a range of facilities catering for the practice of 72 different sports, and as for going out, the only problem is choosing from among the City’s vast range of activities, as is shown in the brochures published by the Centre Régional d'Information Jeunesse (Regional Information Centre for Young People).
